Article One:

Establishing of the Division:
The Cardiology Division will be established under the umbrella of Emirates Medical Association and in accordance with its internal rules and regulations.

Under the title of Emirates Cardiac Society (E.C.S.) it will be one of the branches of the main Association body.

Article Two:

Objectives of Society:
The establishment of the society will aim at achieving the objectives of the Association which encompass:

  • 2.1) To act as a forum for the regular meeting of cardiac physicians and surgeons.
  • 2.2) Provide a forum of the discussion of ideas and organization of cardiological practice.
  • 2.3) Provide a medium through which structured educational programs in the broad field of cardiology could be organized.
  • 2.4) Help to spread Health Education about cardiological problems among the population at large.
  • 2.5) Arrange and develop clinical guidelines for the management of cardiological conditions.
  • 2.6) Arrange and establish registers for cardiological conditions.
  • 2.7) Support and promote medical and scientific research in the field of cardiology.
  • 2.8) Organize meeting on a regular basis between various units in the country.
  • 2.9) Participate in cardiological meetings on a regional and international basis.
  • 2.10) Develop and strengthens relations between the division and other divisions of the Emirates Medical Association.

Article Three:

Scope of the Division (E.S.C.):
The division undertakes to comply with all the rules and regulations of the Emirates Medical Association and with decisions issued by its Board of Management.

Article Four:

Pre-requisite Conditions for Membership eligibility:

  • 4.1) A member of the Emirates Cardiac Society must be a member of the Emirates Medical Association.
  • 4.2) A member of Emirates Cardiac Society must abide by the bylaws of the Association in addition to the internal rules and regulations of the Emirates Cardiac Society itself.
  • 4.3) A member must be a medical doctor or a personnel, as defined in article five, working in the field of cardiology.

Article Five:

Membership Categories:
Membership is divided in to two categories:

  • 5.1) Active members:
    Members of Emirates Medical Association who have an interest in the field of cardiology.
  • 5.2) Honorary members:
    These are individuals who are not eligible to become members of Emirates Medical Association, but to whom the Emirates Cardiac Society or the Association decides to grant honorary membership.

Article Six:

Members Rights and Entitlements:

  • 6.1) Members are eligible to be nominated by the board of management to represent the division and speak on its behalf in congress and meetings.
  • 6.2) A member's family or guest colleagues are entitled to services offered by the Association on various occasions and of other privileges in line with the Associations internal rules.
  • 6.3) Freedom to express their opinion during the Emirates Cardiac Society's general assembly sessions.
  • 6.4) Entitlement to apply for and be elected as member of the Emirates Cardiac Society's managing Board is restricted to medical doctor members.

Article Seven:

Terminations of membership of the Division:

  • 7.1) Upon termination of membership of the Emirates Medical Association.
  • 7.2) Upon resignation from the Emirates Cardiac Society.
  • 7.3) Upon violation by the member of any condition stipulated in article four of the Emirates Cardiac Society bylaws. The termination of membership of the Division must be decided by the majority of the members of the Division's managing board.

Article Eight:

Emirates Cardiac Society's General Assembly:

  • 8.1) The Emirates Cardiac Society's general Assembly will consist of all active members of the Emirates Cardiac Society, who hold a valid membership in the Emirates Medical Association.
  • 8.2) Ordinary sessions of the Emirates Cardiac Society's General Assembly will take place in the first quarter of each year. The invitation for eligible members to attend must be sent at least two weeks prior to General Assembly dates and must indicate the time and place of the meeting. Along with the meeting the agenda must be sent to every eligible member. The Emirates Cardiac Society will notify the Association Board of Management through the Chairman of the Cultural Committee of the venue of the Emirates Cardiac Society's General Assembly.
  • 8.3) An extraordinary session of the Emirates Cardiac Society's General Assembly can be called by the Association Board of Management or by the Division's Managing Board or upon the request of one third of the members of the division. An extraordinary session will be held provided the Managing Board of the Emirates Cardiac Society is notified of the purpose two weeks prior to the scheduled date of the general assembly, and the agenda of the assembly is submitted.
  • 8.4) One ordinary session of the Emirates Cardiac Society's General Assembly will be held within a period not exceeding one month following the results of the election of the Emirates Medical Association for the purpose of electing members of the Emirates Cardiac Society's Managing Board.
  • 8.5) General Assembly sessions of the Emirates cardiac Society must be attended by the Chairman of the Cultural Committee or his deputy in order to monitor the proceeding of the meeting and supervise the procedures related to application and elections.

Article Nine:

Emirates Cardiac Society's Managing Board:
The Emirates Cardiac Society's affairs will be run by a managing board consisting of the Chairman and six members elected during an ordinary session of the Emirates Cardiac Society's General Assembly attended by more than half the members.

The managing board of the Emirates Cardiac Society will remain in post for duration equal to a full election cycle of the Board of Management of the Emirates Medical Association. Elected division members will have the freedom to decide the distribution of the management posts.

Article Ten:

Emirates Cardiac Society's Managing Board Meetings.
The meeting of the Emirates Cardiac Society managing Board will be held usually once a month, minimum eight times a year, and a copy of each meeting must be sent to the Board of management of the Emirates Medical Association thorough the Chairman of the Cultural Committee.

Article Eleven:

Emirates Cardiac Society's Finances
Since the Emirates Medical Association is subsidizing the various Divisions, the financial matters of each division will be covered by the Association's accounts. If the Emirates Cardiac Society gets donations or other type of income, such as funds must be deposited in the Association's accounts.

Article Twelve:

Emirates Cardiac Society's Correspondence.
The Emirates Cardiac Society will hold office within the premises of the Emirates Medical Association. All correspondence related to the Emirates Cardiac Society will use the official Association letterhead format, with an indication of the Emirates Cardiac Society's designation. All correspondence related to the Emirates Cardiac Society will be filed and kept with the premises of the Emirates Medical Association. A copy of all correspondence related to the Emirates Cardiac Society must be sent to the Board of management of the Emirates Medical Association through the Chairman of the Cultural Committee.

Article Thirteen:

All activities of the Emirates Cardiac Society will be conveyed to the Chairman of the Cultural Committee as a representative of the managerial Board of the Emirates Medical Association, and he will notify the board accordingly.

Article Fourteen:

Dissolution of the Emirates Cardiac Society by General Assembly.
Dissolving of the Emirates Cardiac Society can be decided by an extraordinary session of Emirates Cardiac Society's General Assembly provided that more than half of the Emirates Cardiac Society's members attend the session and that a majority of two-thirds of the attending members is obtained. All such decision must be notified to the Association Board of Management through the Chairman of Cultural Committee.

Article Fifteen:

Dissolution of the Emirates Cardiac Society by the Emirates Medical Association.
The Emirates Medical Association Board of Management reserves the right to dissolve the Emirates Cardiac Society and will indicate the reasons that have resulted in such a decision.

Article Sixteen:

Effective Date of Bylaws.
The Emirates Cardiac Society's bylaws will take effect on the date the Emirates Medical Association Board of Management approves it.
